'Lude is awaiting a new head gasket, lol. Which is fine, as it was only bought as a stopgap to last me until I got the Audi back on the road.

how did you manage do blow a head gasket! You dont even have vtec! haha. Ive never heard of headgasket issues on any generation prelude.

Coolant transfer hose blew while on the interstate. Because of where it was located, all the steam went under the car and when I noticed the coolant temp had shot through the roof, I had just enough time to throw it in neutral and reach for the key before the engine cut off. I was able to coast about a quarter mile to the exit ramp, up the ramp, make the right-hander, and coast to the gas station on the corner, lol.
Kinda-sorta hoping the block is screwed up so I can have a reason to ditch the shitty A20A3 stock motor and swap in a B-series, lol.

Thats some good luck right there. At least for being able to save the care and getting somewhere safely.
Well at this point you might be halfway cost wise to do a headgasket vs a complete swap. And the swap will give you a car worth its money in smiles. These hondas are no doubt the legos of the auto world. have you been scouting out what it would cost for a B series?

Yeah, there's a pair of parts yards near me with a plethora of Hondas and Acuras. I'm going to go next weekend or so and see if I can find a good B or K series. Other than that, there's always craigslist. If I had the money, I'd just buy one from R&T Motorsports , since their shop is only about 15 minutes from my house. Their prices look steep, until you realize that you get a running and tested engine, transmission, wiring harness, brackets, sensors, accessories, and shift linkage.

Pulling one out of a running car is always good. Thats where craiglists might come in handy. And yea that shop would be a good safe option as well, and they probably even give you a defect warranty of something like that. Plus wouldnt they be the engines out of JDM cars, not domestic ones? Also, you need to go search if its easy enough to just swap in a JDM engine or if it will be less of a headache to swap a USDM setup one.
btw, ive been pondering over craigslists and i found an audi.... http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/4124587443…

The swap kit is designed for putting JDM engines into USDM cars. I've already asked, haha.
And that Audi looks like it's been rode hard and hung up wet...

Ahhh okay. I wanted to warn you as that is usually 98% of problems with guys who swap honda motors in. For one they dont bother to get the proper harnesses or ECU's, and two, they think JDM engine go right in with no change whatsoever. And then they wonder why and complain on the forums that it dont work..... -_-
And yeah it really kinda does. But i saw it just now and was like, dang, im pretty sure thats nearly the exact generation audi as you!

Nope, that's the next generation. Mine's a B3 chassis, which is smaller, stiffer, and more lightweight, but lacks the legroom and folding rear seat of the B4 generation. I personally prefer the B3 method, haha.

I think id agree. stiffer chassis is well worth it. And My audi spotting is a bit rough. My EDM skills arent as fluent as my JDM. haha.
Well good luck with the prelude. I hope you keep it and have fun with it. What you have is a great base to build a reliable fun car that will give a lot of other cars a run for its money. I dont know the power on the audi, but would you say a B swapped 2 gen prelude could give your B3 a run for its money?
Plus if you brought that car to meets/shows and if you did a clean engine install and shaved a bunch of the extra stuff, youll certainly gather peoples attention. It has lots of potential.
Ill stop my lude elitism before i endlessly ramble haha.

Honestly, the Prelude was already faster than the Audi 0-60, but the Audi has better cornering ability. I think that's mainly just due to weight and size, as they're VERY different types of cars, haha.
I'm debating on whether to keep the Prelude or trade it for an AW11 MR2 once I get it running again. I just don't feel the necessary level of passion for the Prelude like I feel I should. I think it's due to it being FWD...

well yah 0-60 isnt the end all, but im kinda suprised. I though the audi would kill a 2nd gen. regardless of the weight.
I think you have some sort of internal struggle with yourself over fwd/rwd. FWD is not the end of the world, and you can still have a lot of fun with it. Plus you wont die from death by oversteer! However death by understeer is still an option. hahah.
It really comes down to what you want. It seems you want to be able to drift. To be able to get that rear end out just a tad on the exit of a corner. To which i want to do too. Which is why im continually looking for a 240... however, im never selling the prelude. Too many preludes are falling victim to people who dont car, and to people who crash them. The fall into non enthusiasts and people who dont appreciate the prelude. The prelude to me, is a gem people are forgetting about. Even though its FWD, thats what makes it important. Its about the best dam fwd 2dr car for the money thats out there. Its comparable for each generation to cars of their lifespans. And when set up, can give nearly any car you encounter daily some heat on their rear end.
I can always give you my "keep your prelude" shpeil, but ultimately its your choice.

For the 2nd gen Prelude, it really comes to a lack of support. There is absolutely NO aftermarket for it at all. 2 bolt-on intakes, one exhaust system, 2 types of springs, one type of shock/strut, and that is IT. If it had a better aftermarket and parts weren't so damned impossible to find, I'd keep it. As it stands right now, I appreciate it for the rare gem it is, but I'd rather it go to someone who would appreciate it more and properly utilize it according to their level of passion.

Very true. Im frustrated with aftermarket support for my 5th gen. I cant image it being even worse. Though a B swap would solve the performance aftermarket issue...
Or better yet, trade up for a 4th or 5th gen! haha just kidding. I'd do whatever you can make the most of. Just dont take a hit or anything trying to find something else. Maximize the profit.

Also, as for the Audi, I have the 80Q, which was the base version of that model lineup back in it's day. It's got a 10v head instead of a 20v head, which mean it has less total output, but a more even power curve, making it easier to drive but not as sporty as the 90Q or Coupe. Luckily, everything else is pretty much identical aside from the heads. Same AWD system, same locking rear diff, same transmission and suspension. Oh, and less fancy interior bits, haha.

10 valves are probably more reliable than 20, which is good. And hey, if its comfortable and fun to drive, then who cares if its got fancy bits, they arent what im thinking about when im downshifting 3rd to take a nice medium speed sweeper. Locking rear diff sounds pretty sweet too.
